Mock Exam I Review

This is usually a 2 hour session in which we will analyze the highlights of the mock exam stations. At this session in addition to examining the right medical checklists we examine the differences between the Canadian style of communication versus the culture-dependent communication style of IMGs immigrating from different countries which might affect their performances adversely. By the end of the session students will learn how by adapting the Canadian style of communication they can easily boost their communication skills score in OSCE exams as well as residency interviews and avoid common pitfalls in real exams.

Mock Exam I

The OSCE mock exams are 10 stations of different topics. At each station there is an examiner and a standardized patient (SP) who mimic the real exam situation for you. You will have 2 minutes outside the station to read the stem question and prepare yourself. Depending on the type of station you will be given 8  to 11 minutes to interact with the SP. In some stations the examine will ask you post-encounter questions.

After each mock exam there will be a review session and all candidates will receive individual feedback sheets which will reflect the examiner and SP’s feedback as well as their ranking in each station compared to the rest of the candidates.

Mock Exam dummy

This will be the second mock exam with the same format as in the first mock exam but with different stations and topics. To function as a brilliant candidate in real OSCEs, we strongly recommend taking both mock exams because each covers different topics and post-encounter questions. These mock exams are included with the full OSCE course registration. However, if there are spaces available, we can accept registrations for mock exams from outside candidates.

Trauma

Having adequate knowledge to handle a trauma station is “a must” for every IMG who is preparing for MCCQE2 or NAC-OSCE exams. At this 6 hour session we will teach the common trauma stations which have shown up in the Canadian OSCE exams; then we will walk you through the appropriate OSCE oriented management skills you will need to handle these complicated stations in limited allotted time. These stations are quite dynamic and would require an organised approach to combine relevant history, appropriate physical exam along with real time management of the supposedly traumatized patients. Any waste of time or failure to recognize and address the critical circumstances of the patient could lead to complete failure at these stations. This session is strongly recommended to all IMGs if they are looking for highest level of confidence in such critical stations.

Interview Preparation

Residency Interview is the final and vital stag of admissions into the Canadian residency training system. It could make or break you. At this session we invite a number of experienced speakers to provide input towards success in residency interviews. We also hold a panel discussion by performing some mock interview encounters. To prevent a fatal error we strongly recommend this session to those IMGs preparing for their residency interviews.
